Norwegian shipbuilder Havyard has christened the first battery-powered ferry ordered by Fjord1.

Havyard Ship Technology Executive Vice President Lasse Stokkeland said MF Husavik is the first of 13 battery-powered ferries with autocrossing functionality that will be built for Fjord1 at Havyard Ship Technology in Leirvik.

Autocross, a system for automatic fjord crossing, has been developed by Norwegian Control Systems. It calculates the course, speed, acceleration and retardation that results in the most efficient and economical crossing.

Husavik will operate on the Husavik–Sandvikvåg service in Hordaland county.

Havyard Group will be delivering the design for seven battery-powered ferries to Fjord1, five of which will be built at the company's shipyard.
