A passenger ferry and a training vessel sustained minor damage after colliding with each other in the waters off Istanbul at around 12:35 local time on Friday, June 28.

The 127-metre-long Piri Reis Üniveritesi, a vessel operated by Turkey's maritime-oriented Piri Reis University, was about to berth at Istanbul's Sarayburnu Port when its bow struck the starboard side foredeck of the 58-metre-long ferry Şehit Sami Akbulut.

No one was injured in the incident, which Piri Reis University claims was a "near miss."

Further, the university said in a statement that Piri Reis Üniveritesi was under the guidance of a pilot, who had maneouvred the vessel in accordance with International Regulations for the Prevention of Collision at Sea (COLREG).

The incident remains under investigation.
