Recently completed deliveries include ferries for customers in Japan and Papua New Guinea and an LNG hybrid cruise ship for a Norwegian company. Meanwhile, a new order has been placed for new catamaran ferries to be built in Spain for an Italian operator.

Thai builder delivers inter-island catamaran to Papua New Guinea operator

Thailand's Seacat Ships has delivered a new catamaran ferry to an undisclosed inter-island operator in Papua New Guinea.

The 22-metre Kalibobo Express has capacity for 150 passengers and can cruise at speeds of between 20 and 22 knots. The passenger loading systems are versatile enough to allow use at beaches and jetties.

Power is provided by two John Deere 6135 SFM85-M4 engines.

Havila Kystruten welcomes newest LNG-fueled ship to fleet

Turkey's Tersan Shipyard has delivered Havila has delivered Havila Castor, the second in a series of four ships ordered by Norwegian cruise operator Havila Kystruten.

Like sister vessel Havila Capella, Havila Castor features LNG and battery propulsion, which also includes shore charging equipment. The vessel can sail for up to four hours on battery power alone.

Amenities include restaurants, cafes, bars, a conference room, an observation lounge, and gymnasiums.

The vessel was designed by Norway's HAV Ship Design and built under the supervision of DNV.

First in new Ro-Pax series delivered to Japan's Miyazaki Car Ferry

Japanese operator Miyazaki Car Ferry recently took delivery of the first of two large Ro-Pax vessels ordered from local shipyard Naikai Zosen Corporation.

Ferry Takachiho and its yet unnamed sister will replace two 1997-built ferries in the owner's fleet.

The newbuild measures 194 by 28 metres and has a draught of 5.8 metres.

Italy's Liberty Lines taps Spanish yard for nine hybrid catamarans

Italian operator Liberty Lines has awarded Spanish shipyard Armon a contract for nine new hybrid catamaran ferries plus options nine additional vessels.

The RINA-classed vessels will be powered by MTU engines that deliver speeds of eight knots on battery power and 30 knots in cruise mode.

The nine firm ferries are scheduled for delivery during the 2023-2026 timeframe.
