TUI Cruises has christened Mein Schiff 1 at Germany's Port of Hamburg.

Named by her godmothers, world champion beach volleyballers Kira Walkenhorst and Laura Ludwig, the christening ceremony took place at the HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai.

The ceremony took place on Mein Schiff 1's pool deck and featured performances from aerial acrobats, dancers and Yared Dibaba.

Built at Meyer Turku shipyard, the 315-metre by 36-metre cruise ship accommodates 3,132 passengers in 1,437 cabins.

The 111,500GT vessel has a 1,092-strong crew.

Mein Schiff 1 has since embarked on its maiden voyage to southern Norway.
