Six people were injured after two vessels collided in the Western Scheldt estuary in Zeeland, Netherlands, in the early morning hours of Monday, April 1.

The collision between the Swiss-flagged river cruise ship Viking Idun (pictured) and the Maltese-flagged tanker Chemical Marketer occurred shortly after 00:00 local time.

The cruise ship, which was sailing from Antwerp to Ghent at the time, was towed to port following the incident.

No oil spills have been reported though Chemical Marketer suffered a crack in the hull while Viking Idun's bow sustained considerable damage.

Both vessels suffered damage just above their respective waterlines.

Five passengers and one crewmember aboard Viking Idun suffered minor injuries. The passengers were treated on-site by responding medical teams while the injured crewmember was rushed to hospital for further treatment.

No injuries were reported among Chemical Marketer's crew.

Both vessels are presently in the port of Terneuzen as local authorities seek to determine whether it is safe enough for them to continue sailing unassisted.
