Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has confirmed the tragic news of the passing of Claudio Graziano, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fincantieri, earlier this month at the age of 70. His death came a little over two years since he was appointed to the position.

A career officer in the Italian Army who eventually retired as a general, Graziano began his military service in 1972 when he entered the Military Academy of Modena. He was commissioned as an infantry officer and later served in various key positions including Military Attaché at the Italian Embassy in Washington, DC, Commander of the Kabul Multinational Brigade in Afghanistan, Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, Chief of Staff of the Italian Army, Chief of the Defence Staff of the Italian Armed Forces, and Chairman of the European Union Military Committee.

Immediately following his retirement from military service in May 2022, Graziano was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fincantieri. He also became Chairman of Italian naval architecture industry association Assonave later that same year. In addition to serving in these two roles, he has also authored numerous books, studies, and articles.

Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero has been appointed interim Chairman following Mr Graziano's sudden passing. A new Chairman will be appointed at a later time in accordance with the company's succession plan of the Chairman of the Board of Directors and of the Chief Executive Officer.
