Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) subsidiary Mitsui OSK Passenger Line (MOPAS) has scheduled the cruise ship Nippon Maru for a 50-day renovation programme that will be carried out before the vessel begins its 30th year in service.

The renovations will include the addition of three- and six-person cabins on the fourth and fifth levels in the bow section and the replacement of the vessel's existing engines with newer engines that will run on low-sulphur fuel oil.

The project will commence in mid-February 2020 and is expected to last through to early April.

This will be Nippon Maru's second major renovation period following an upgrade programme in 2010 as the vessel marked its 20th anniversary with MOPAS.
