Italian yard cuts first steel for TUI Cruises’ future LNG-fueled ship

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has cut the first steel for a new LNG-fueled ship ordered by German operator TUI Cruises.

The ship will be the first in a series of two to be built by Fincantieri at its Monfalcone facilities. Deliveries are scheduled for 2024 and 2026, respectively.

Notable features on the two ships will include shore charging equipment and catalytic converters to ensure compliance with Euro VI emission standards.

Fincantieri said it is also studying the possibility of make the ships capable of operating on low-emission biofuels in addition to the LNG in the future.
