A Carnival Cruise Line vessel rescued the occupants of a small fishing boat that had been adrift at sea for two days on Friday, June 7.

Carnival Horizon had just left its last port of call in Aruba and was sailing towards its homeport of Miami when its crew received an alert from the US Coast Guard about a nearby vessel in distress and in need of assistance.

The cruise ship then changed course and headed for the distressed fishing boat. The seven occupants, all of whom have been identified as Haitian nationals, were brought on board the larger vessel and were given food, water, and medical treatment.

Carnival Horizon arrived at Miami with the rescued fishermen on Sunday, June 9. Carnival Cruise Line said that the Haitians were to be handed over to the authorities upon the ship's arrival in the US.
