Singapore-based companies Marco Polo Marine and SeaTech Solutions International have confirmed their collaboration on the development of two new specialised offshore wind service, operation, and maintenance vessels.
The service operation vessel (SOV) and the commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) to be developed by the partnership will both be equipped with daughter craft, elevating towers, 3D motion-compensated cranes and gangways, and hybrid battery-based energy storage systems (ESS). The partners claimed that the use of the ESS will help reduce fuel consumption and emissions by around 15 to 20 per cent compared to non-diesel electric hybrid vessels.
The SOV and the CSOV will be able to accommodate 60 and 110 personnel, respectively. The SOV will function as a mother ship for wind turbine technicians performing maintenance and service work at offshore wind farms, while the CSOV will support commissioning works during construction of offshore wind farms, as well as their maintenance operations.
