Russian Navy’s newest rescue boats wrap up builder’s trials

Baird Maritime

Russia's Nizhegorodsky Teplokhod Shipyard recently completed builder's trials of two Project 23040 harbour rescue boats slated for the Russian Navy.

Each 28- by 5.56-metre vessel will be used primarily for search and rescue (SAR) and firefighting but may also carry out dive support and marine research. Onboard equipment will also include a towed sonar, a remotely operated underwater vehicle, night vision cameras, and a generator for providing electricity to disabled ships at sea.

The vessels are scheduled to begin state trials later this month and will begin operating as part of the Russian Pacific Fleet by September.
