Singapore builder unveils 27-metre windfarm crewboat

Singapore-based shipbuilder Strategic Marine has unveiled a new design of 27-metre catamaran crewboat optimised for windfarm support duties.

Each vessel in the series, which was designed in partnership with UK naval architects BMT, will have an improved hull design that will maximise the waterline length. The builder claims this will improve operational efficiency across a broad range of loading conditions, thereby reducing emissions and fuel consumption.

The crewboat is designed for flexibility and can be fitted with various engine makes and can reach in excess of 30 knots at full speed. Owners can also choose among several options for the propulsion, deck cranes, active fender system, ride control, and other features.

The bridge deck layout will offer improved visibility from the helm and an ergonomic layout to increase comfort for the bridge crew. Internal arrangements have also been optimised for improved comfort and workflow with ample storage space, comfortable sleeping areas, and business class seating.

There are also two superstructure options available for either 12 or 24 technicians. The larger asymmetric version will offer a 30 per cent increase in area in the main deck cabin compared with Strategic Marine's 26-metre crewboat while the smaller version will provide the vessel with a gross tonnage of less than 200, which in some jurisdictions allows for reduced crew numbers and therefore lower OPEX.

The crewboat is also designed to reduce both the risk of infectious disease and any impact on the environment and can meet relevant classification society biosafety and environmentally friendly notations, including Green Passport for ship recycling.
