VESSEL REVIEW | Sea Eidum – Shallow-draught workboat for Dutch marine services specialist

Baird Maritime

Netherlands-based marine services company Seacontractors recently took delivery of a new shallow-draught workboat built by local shipyard Neptune Marine. Named Sea Eidum, the vessel is purpose-built to undertake a wide range of offshore operations such as construction and logistical support. The design may also be used for secondary duties including anchor handling, dredging support, and seafloor surveys.

The Bureau Veritas-classed vessel has an LOA of 26.48 metres, a moulded beam of 11 metres, a draught of 2.61 metres, a depth of 3.5 metres, and a gross tonnage of 255. Power is provided by two Caterpillar C32 ACERT IMO Tier III main engines that each produce 970 kW at 1,800 rpm to drive 1,850mm nozzle-housed, fixed-pitch propellers, while a 250kW thruster installed in the push bow ensures enhanced lateral manoeuvrability in close quarters. In addition to delivering a bollard pull of 33.9 tonnes and maximum and service speeds of 10 and eight knots, respectively, the entire propulsion arrangement guarantees improved stability and enables precise positioning even in challenging conditions.

The spacious open deck has a total area of 145 square metres and allows for efficient cargo handling, equipment storage, and various offshore activities. The deck equipment includes Heila HLRM 230-4SLK and HLRM 140-3S cranes placed fore and aft, a Mampaey towing hook, bow and stern rollers, towing pins, and anchor handling, towing, and tugger winches supplied by Tecnospirit. Power for the onboard systems is drawn from two Volvo Penta D8 278kVa main generators while a Caterpillar C4.4 is installed to serve as an auxiliary unit.

The crew accommodations include single cabins available for up to six people. All accommodation spaces are fitted with air conditioning.

Sea Eidum will soon begin serving its initial contract, which entails work on a long-term project on behalf of an undisclosed client in the Middle East.
