Valentine Watkins

Havyard Ship Technology has signed a contract with an international shipping company for the design and building of two Havyard 843 Ice offshore icebreakers.

Designed in-house by Havyard Design and Solutions, the vessels will be built at Havyard Ship Technology's Leirvik shipyard in Sogn, Norway. The two vessels will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2016, to a repeat international customer.

The contracts for the two vessels are worth just over NOK1.0 billion (US$147 million).

Constructed to DNV classification, the vessels will measure 86.7 metres in length, 19.5 metres in breadth, and 7.75 metres in draught. The vessels will have speeds of 16 knots, bollard pulls of 185 tonnes, and on board accommodation for 53.

Also featuring Icebreaker Ice 10 and Winterised Cold notation, the Havyard 843 Ice-series vessels will be able to break ice more than a metre thick and feature anti-icing systems.

The vessels are otherwise designed for anchor-handling, towing and for use in emergency response operations in connection with oil spills and rescue services.
