Nexans has been awarded a contract by Irish energy company SSE Renewables to design, manufacture, and install the high voltage (HV) onshore and offshore export cables for the phase one development of the Seagreen offshore wind farm project in Scotland.
Nexans' factory in the US will supply the three 65-kilometres offshore export cables while the three 20-kilometre onshore export cables for the project will be manufactured at the company's factory in Charleroi, Belgium.
The export cables for the Seagreen offshore windfarm project will be installed by the cable laying vessel Nexans Aurora, which is currently under construction and will be delivered in the second quarter of 2021.
Construction on the 1,075MW project, located 27 kilometres off the coast of Angus, will start in 2021 and is expected to be completed by 2023. Once operational, it will be Scotland's largest offshore wind farm and will be capable of supplying renewable energy for up to one million homes.
