Jan De Nul Group and Parkwind have commenced offshore seabed preparation works for the Northwester 2 project, marking the start of construction of the seventh offshore wind farm off the Belgian coast.
Jan De Nul has just finished the offshore scour protection works on the different wind turbine locations. At each location, the company's subsea rock installation vessel Simon Stevin installed a 32-metre-wide and 700-millimetre-thick rock layer to stabilise the seabed around the foundation.
Installation of the first foundation is expected within the month.
Once operational in 2020, the Northwester 2 wind farm will consist of 23 MHI Vestas wind turbines delivering 219 MW of power to up to 220,000 Belgian households.
