Dredging

Headway made on Damen and CEMEX joint venture

Baird Maritime

The joint venture by Damen Shipyards Group and CEMEX UK Marine to build a new line of marine aggregate dredgers is nearing the beginning of construction.

Alewijnse Marine has been contracted for the complete electrical outfitting of the project's first dredger.

This vessel is a new design by Damen and the British owner CEMEX UK Marine, which specialises in building materials.

The dredger is designed to extract sand and gravel from the sea bed at depths of up to 55 metres, in challenging locations including the North Sea.

The construction will take place at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania.
