Damen Shipyards Group has unveiled a water injection dredger (WID) featuring a plug-and-play system aboard a multi-purpose workboat platform.
Product Director Dredging Olivier Marcus said the base workboat design is usually used to assist cutter suction dredgers (CSD) on dredging projects, carrying out anchor shifting and cutter teeth replacement.
The WID will be fitted with a dredge pump.
By injecting the silt with high-volume but low-pressure water, the accumulated soil will become a density flow. And by utilising the current or gradient, the silt will be removed from ports and waterways.
"After foundations are installed, the modular WID system can be attached or removed without drydocking," said Mr Marcus.
