Norwegian maritime services company Bergen Group Services has been contracted to perform maintenance and upgrade work for the 10-year classification of SS Statsraad Lehmkuhl next month.
Built in 1914 as a training ship for the German merchant marine, SS Statsraad Lehmkuhl is a three-masted steel bark built by Johann C Tecklenberg at Bremerhaven-Geestemünde.
It served as a school training vessel for the German Navy, and has been chartered for the same purpose by the Royal Norwegian Navy since 2002.
The 103-year-old ship, which is one of the few three-masted bark-rigged ships still operating, is scheduled to be put in dry dock at Laksevåg for the 10-year classification and other maintenance.
In addition, Bergen Group Services has also signed a five-year framework (with additional 2+2 year options) agreement with the Statsraad Lehmkuhl Foundation covering future maintenance and upgrades of the historic sail ship.
