Liebherr mobile harbour cranes on the fast lane

Baird Maritime

The Kuwait-based Al Ghanim & Al Majid Logistics Group (AGAM) has taken delivery of nine Liebherr mobile harbour cranes after the concession for container handling in the ports of Shuaiba and Shuwaikh was awarded by His Excellency Minister of Communication and Chairman of the Kuwait Ports Authority's Board of Directors Abdul Rahman Khalid Saleh Al Ghuneim.

The tremendous growth of ports in the Middle East over the past few years in terms of global trade, and the associated demand for freight and handling capacity has increased the importance of an efficient infrastructure. The new cranes each have a lifting capacity of 104 tonnes and a maximum outreach of 51 metres.

When handling Panamax container liners, the LHM 500, for example, has a capacity of 50 tonnes below spreader up to an outreach of 40 metres, which are perfect pre-conditions for full twin-lift operation up to the 13th row. Even when operating on post-Panamax container liners, the LHM 500 is able of handling 40-foot containers up to the 17th row (51 metres).

The cranes weigh up to 500 tonnes, which enhances stability, and can turn in any desired direction with its multi axle rubber tired undercarriage.
