Schottel has supplied two examples of its SRP 710 rudder propeller to Turkish shipbuilder Med Marine for installation on a new 42- by 16-metre tug ordered by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).
Schottel said the tug's main and auxiliary propulsion systems will enable it to achieve a bollard pull of more than 120 tonnes.
The rudder propellers each have a 3.4-metre propeller an input power of 3,700 kW at 1,000 rpm.
The tug will also have azimuth thrusters powered by diesel engines and a hydraulically-driven 250kW STT 170 transverse thruster for added manoeuvrability.
The Robert Allan Ltd-designed tug will be equipped for various duties including towing, salvage, and firefighting. It will be operated out of the Port of Mombasa.
