Ghana and the Chinese government have agreed to start work soon on a US$50 million fishing port complex at Jamestown.

The three-stage development includes the dredging of 118,000 cubic metres of harbour basin and shipping channels, construction of 1,200 metres of hydraulic structures for berths, seawall and a breakwater, and the construction of administration, production and supporting facilities, including a kindergarten, fish market and a processing area.

The development, which is funded by a Chinese grant, will create about 1,000 jobs for youths.

A US$16 million bilateral agreement was also signed at Accra for the implementation of projects including the phase two of the University of Health and Allied Sciences project.
