VESSEL REVIEW | Seigull – Large wellboat for Chilean salmon farming company

Baird Maritime

Chilean salmon farming company Grupo CPT recently added a newbuild vessel to its live transport fleet.

Built by China's Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard, Seigull will be used for both smolt stocking and salmon harvesting. It is the final vessel in a series of four wellboats to be built for CPT beginning in 2017 for operation by its CPT Wellboats business unit.

As with sister vessels Seikongen, Seivik, and Sooke, Seigull has an LOA of 70.2 metres, a beam of 14 metres, a draught of 5.7 metres, a gross tonnage of 1,944, a total live transport capacity of 1,900 cubic metres split between port and starboard tanks, and a speed of 12.8 knots.

Two Palfinger Marine knuckle boom cranes are fitted on the main deck amidships. The wheelhouse offers a full 360 degrees of visibility to enable the bridge crew to directly oversee deck operations.

MSD Salud Animal fitted the vessel with a Vaki fish counter that can also deliver count reports in each despatch, record images, and measure the size and the weight of each harvested fish, all while being controlled from the vessel's bridge. The fish counter was developed to ensure safe and gentle handling of fish.

Space is also available for a fast rescue boat as well as a dedicated launch and recovery davit.

Seigull is classed by the American Bureau of Shipping.
