Norwegian owner Intership recently welcomed a new wellboat into its fleet. Built by Zamakona Yards of Spain, Inter Atlantic is the first in a series of two vessels designed for Intership by a Norwegian naval architecture firm.
The vessel has a 72.2 metres, a beam of 17 metres, a depth of six metres, a total live transport capacity of 2,200 cubic metres, and a freshwater production capacity of 5,000 cubic metres per day.
The fish handling equipment is supplied by MMC First Process while the delousing equipment is from FLS and the freshwater production system is from Peter Taboada. Intership said the combination of freshwater treatment and low-pressure treatment is an effective and gentle method for removing salmon lice.
As with the owner's other wellboats fitted with treatment facilities, the specially designed reverse osmosis system allows fresh water to be used in treating both lice and amoebic gill disease (AGD). Intership said the method is a highly efficient, affordable, and environmentally friendly means of addressing some common issues adversely affecting salmon health.
The remainder of the equipment includes RSW plants from PTG FrioNordica, HVAC systems and engine room ventilators from Teknotherm, compressors from Kaeser, pumps from Azcue, a bilge water separator and sanitary treatment facilities from RWO, Furuno electronics, and cranes from Palfinger Marine. The interiors feature Libra-Plast doors, Shipmed medical equipment, and wheelhouse seats from Alu Design and Services.
The propulsion arrangement consists of a Caterpillar-MaK 6M25E main engine, a shaft generator, Caterpillar C32 and 3512C generators, a Caterpillar C9.3 emergency generator, auxiliary engines, a Kongsberg Maritime rudder, a Finnoy gearbox and propeller, and Schottel side thrusters. Optimal fuel consumption can be achieved via this setup even as the vessel transitions between different operating profiles.
Inter Atlantic will initially be deployed to Scotland where it will support the salmon harvesting activities of a local operator. The vessel will later relocate to Canada's Atlantic coast, where it will operate under contract with Mowi's local subsidiary.
