Danish shipbuilder Vestværftet recently handed over a new crab fishing vessel to Greenlandic owner and boat captain Knud Lennert.
The Vestværftet-designed Inaluk will be used for crab fishing and netting. It will operate primarily in Arctic waters out of the port of Sisimiut on Greenland's west coast. Construction of the hull was undertaken in Poland while final outfitting took place in Hvide Sande, Denmark.
The newbuild has an LOA of 14.99 metres, a moulded beam of 6.6 metres, a gross tonnage of 41.7, and accommodations for six crewmembers including space for a mess/galley. The fishing gear consists of a trap hauler and a Lormek net hauler. Live crabs will be stored in an 11-cubic-metre vivier tank while other catch will be kept in a conventional 45-cubic-metre fishroom.
Power is provided by a Volvo Penta DI16 331kW diesel engine that drives a Korsør 1,500mm fixed-pitch propeller via a ZF W350 gearbox. Also fitted are a steering system from AS Scan, a Hundested 37kW side thruster, and a 34kVA generator.
The electronics suite includes two Furuno radars. The deck equipment includes a TMP knuckle boom crane and an anchor winch while Thyborøn Skibs and Motor provided the hydraulic system.
