On May 18, Vyborg Shipyard and Atlantrybflot and LKT Company (part of FOR Group) signed contracts for construction of two fishing trawlers designated ST-116XL-FOR.

The vessels will be based on a design from Skipsteknisk and are intended for fishing in the Barents Sea. In view of the current workload of Vyborg Shipyard the first vessel is planned to be laid in 2021, with delivery of the trawlers expected in 2022.

"Last year we concluded at once several contracts for construction of trawlers with the fishing companies of the north-west of Russia," said General Director of Vyborg Shipyard Alexander Solovyev. "Currently the committed order book is providing full workload for the enterprise for the next few years. This year we are proceeding in this direction, negotiating with other potential customers and looking for continuation of the series of vessels under the already signed contracts."

FOR Group is one of the ten biggest fishing companies in Russia. Each vessel of the new generation based on the ST-116XL-FOR design will have a fillet factory, fish meal plant, fish oil producing equipment and canning plant on board, and will also be fitted with high-capacity cargo cranes and advanced trawling equipment. In accordance with the contracts the trawlers will be reinforced to Ice3 class which will enable an extended effective fishing time.
