The Ghanaian-flagged Atlantic Princess was at a point 65 nautical miles south of Tema when it was approached by a skiff with eight armed men on board at 18:30 UTC on Wednesday.

The perpetrators boarded the fishing vessel and later departed the scene with five of the crew as hostages. These included the vessel's South Korean captain, the Russian bosun, and the chief officer, the second officer, and the chief engineer, who are all Chinese nationals.

The vessel's AIS track as of Thursday, May 20, shows it is en route to Accra, Ghana.
