Construction completed on new Chinese self-propelled fish farm

China's Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding has completed construction on a new vessel that will operate primarily as an offshore fish farm.

Named Lu Ji Yu Yang 60616, the self-propelled vessel was designed by the Institute of Fisheries Machinery and Instruments of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences. It has an LOA of 249 metres, a beam of 45 metres, and a displacement of approximately 130,000 tonnes.

Two engines deliver a speed of 10 knots and a range of 20,000 nautical miles or an endurance of 90 days.

The vessel's main deck can accommodate a variety of equipment used in fish farming, processing, transfer, storage, and experimental research. There are also a helicopter deck and breeding laboratories.

Faroese salmon farmer orders two 700-tonne feed barges

Faroe Islands-based salmon farm operator Hiddenfjord has selected local company JT Electric to construct two new feed barged for deployment at exposed sites in North Atlantic waters.

The fully-automated barges will each have capacity for 700 tonnes of feed and the ability to withstand extreme weather conditions. Technology will also be available to enable the barges' various onboard systems to be operated remotely from a shore station.
