Spanish shibuilder Zamakona Yards has been selected by Norwegian family-owned seafood company Eidsvaag for the construction of two new feed transport vessels in a series.
The vessels are scheduled to be delivered in 2026. Upon completion, they will have diesel-electric propulsion systems with large 860kW battery packs and engines that can also run on biodiesel if needed.
The propulsion systems can also be configured to accommodate hydrogen and other environmentally-friendly alternative fuels once these become more readily available in the future.
The vessels will each have an optimised hull design for greater efficiency, a length of 71.1 metres, a beam of 17.6 metres, a depth of 5.8 metres, space for 14 crewmembers, and a total capacity of 2,000 tonnes of feed divided into sacks and silos.
The vessels will be built based on a design from Norwegian engineering firm Kongsberg Maritime.
