The Norwegian Institute of Food, Fisheries and Aquaculture Research (Nofima) recently opened a new aquaculture research facility focused on onshore fish farming.

The RASforsk Aquaculture Research Station in Tromsø, which occupies 1,350 square metres, has been established to create training opportunities for young individuals and provide the aquaculture industry with additional knowledge on onshore fish farming. Once the station is fully operational, aquaculture companies in northern Norway will have access to education and research facilities where they can learn about recirculating aquaculture systems.

Located within the new station are 18 one-cubic-metre tanks and six nine-cubic-metre tanks, all with separate recirculation systems. The station itself was designed to be flexible, and the recirculation systems and tanks can be interconnected as needed.
