Cleanseas: 80 tonnes of kingfish dead

Australia: Aquaculture company Cleanseas has reported that up to 80 tonnes of kingfish from four cages have died due to human error following a bathing round that was carried out on September 2.

Fish are bathed in the normal course of marine operations. An investigation and a review of bathing policies and procedures is in progress, according to the company.

After monitoring over the weekend and Monday, there have been no further abnormal mortalities from these cages.

The company said that it considers this a one-off loss, which will have a financial impact of up to AU$700,000 (US$641,000) pre-tax on the current half year results to December 31, 2010.

Members of the Baird family or companies in the Baird Publications group own shares in Cleanseas.
