Aker BioMarine has ordered a new unmanned surface vehicle (USV) from Kongsberg Maritime to support its krill harvesting activities in Antarctica.
Aker and Kongsberg will cooperate on the development of the eight-metre USV. Not-for-profit company REV Ocean will provide the partners with scientific advice on the development of the unmanned craft.
The USV may be remotely controlled from a shore station or a mothership. Its sensors will include those used for hydroacoustic mapping, positioning, communication, fish finding, and oceanographic research.
