US Navy submarine New Jersey floated out

Baird Maritime

The future US Navy Virginia-class submarine USS New Jersey was recently launched into water at Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Newport News Shipbuilding division.

The submarine, which had been in a floating dry dock since being transferred from a construction facility in March, was submerged and moved by tugs to the shipyard's submarine pier for final outfitting, testing, and crew certification. HII said construction is approximately 92 per cent complete.

Like its Virginia-class sisters, the future New Jersey will be capable of supporting multiple mission areas and can operate at speeds of more than 25 knots for months at a time.
