US marine robotics firm unveils multi-role USV

Baird Maritime

Boston, Massachusetts-based marine robotics company Sea Machines Robotics has unveiled a new model of unmanned surface vehicle (USV) capable of operating in various industries.

The 22.9-foot (seven-metre) craft is fitted with Sea Machines' proprietary autonomous command and control system and can be used for duties including hydrographic surveying, offshore asset inspection, maritime security, and environmental studies.

Key features include an under-keel sonar mount, a winch, a diesel engine, and an integrated cargo bay for accommodating various payloads.

The craft can also be fitted with remotely controllable deck hatches. This will enable deployment of payloads such as smaller unmanned vehicles while at sea.

Autonomous control and monitoring of the USV will be done via an intuitive, single-screen graphical user interface, allowing operators to easily and quickly learn to employ the craft.
