The crew of the US Coast Guard national security cutter (NSC) Munro offloaded approximately 3,700 kilograms of seized cocaine and 5,000 kilograms of marijuana at the vessel's homeport at Coast Guard Base Alameda, California, on Tuesday, March 23.
Prior to Munro's arrival in Alameda, the crew transferred 12 detainees, approximately 4,100 kilograms of cocaine and 975 kilograms of marijuana to law enforcement officials in San Diego.
The drugs, in total worth an estimated US$330 million, were seized in international waters of the Eastern Pacific Ocean between January and March, representing 15 suspected drug-smuggling vessel interdictions off the coasts of Mexico, Central and South America by Munro, the coast guard medium endurance cutters Bear and Vigilant, and the US Navy littoral combat ship USS Freedom.
