The crew of the US Coast Guard medium endurance cutter Active offloaded approximately 11,500 pounds (5,216 kilograms) of seized cocaine in San Diego, California, on Wednesday, May 19.
The drugs, worth an estimated US$220 million, were seized in the international waters of the Eastern Pacific Ocean during April and May. They represent four suspected drug-smuggling vessel interdictions off the coasts of Mexico, Central, and South America by Active and two other medium endurance cutters.
Active was responsible for two of the interdictions, seizing a total haul of approximately 5,650 pounds (2,562 kilograms) of cocaine. The cutters Steadfast and Tahoma, meanwhile, were responsible for one interdiction each, seizing approximately 2,250 pounds (1,020 kilograms) and 3,660 pounds (1,660 kilograms), respectively.
