Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division has launched the future USCGC Stone, a Legend-class National Security Cutter (NSC) slated for the US Coast Guard.
The vessel honours Commander Elmer F. Stone, the US Coast Guard's first qualified aviator and one of the six crewmembers on the first crossing of the Atlantic by a powered aircraft in May 1919.
The future USCGC Stone is the ninth NSC to be built by Ingalls Shipbuilding.
