Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division cut the first steel for the future US Coast Guard National Security Cutter (NSC) Calhoun on Tuesday, November 12.

The tenth Legend-class NSC will honour the late Charles L. Calhoun, who was the first person to hold the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer of the US Coast Guard (MCPOCG).

Like its sisters, the future USCGC Calhoun will have a length of 127 metres, a beam of 16 metres, a draught of 6.9 metres, a flight deck for both helicopters and unmanned rotary-wing aerial vehicles, and an aft launch and recovery area for two rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIBs).
