The Canaveral Port Authority of Port Canaveral, Florida, has formally named its newest firefighting vessel.
Built by Metal Shark Boats, Fireboat 2 has a welded aluminium hull, a length of 75 feet (22 metres), a beam of 22 feet (6.7 metres), and foam and chemical-based firefighting equipment, and an onboard emergency medical treatment area. Four MAN 800hp (596kW) engines deliver a maximum speed of 35 knots and a cruising speed of 30 knots.
The vessel is also designed to function as a command and control platform during maritime rescue operations.
