The US Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) has confirmed that acceptance trials of the US Navy's second YT-808-class tug have been successfully completed.
Like sister tug Rainier, YT 809 is powered by EPA Tier IV-compliant engines giving it a top speed of 12.5 knots and a bollard pull of approximately 40.6 tonnes.
The tug was designed by Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd and built by Dakota Creek Industries of Anacortes, Washington. It will be used for towing and ship handling of the navy's surface ships, submarines, and barges.
