Fairbanks Morse Engine (FME), a division of Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD), has delivered two 16-cylinder Fairbanks Morse engines to Fincantieri Marinette Marine in Marinette, Wisconsin, for installation on the future USS Cleveland, the 16th ship of the US Navy's Freedom-class LCS variant.
FME was awarded a contract in 2019 to build and deliver main propulsion diesel engines (MPDEs) for the vessel.
The engines each have a rated output of 9,100 hp (6,785 kW) and will form part of the future Cleveland's combined diesel and gas (CODAG) propulsion arrangement, which will also include two 48,000hp (35,793kW) gas turbines.
