Coastal infrastructure in southern New Jersey will undergo improvement works totalling US$4.1 million as part of an initiative by state officials to revitalise the local economy.

Jefferson Van Drew, US Congressman representing New Jersey's Second District, said the initiative under the Stronger Shores policy campaign will encompass the dredging of waterways, the replenishment of beaches, and the protection of coastal environments in the southern areas of the state. Phase one of the initiative will consist of dredging waterways from Cape May through Atlantic City, and phase two will be dredging waterways in Ocean County.

The improvements will be carried out with the assistance of the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the US Coast Guard.
