This is yet another edition of the always dependably brilliant Clarksons registers. This one is up to the usually very high standard and benefits from a few incremental improvements.
Because they are published annually and are both comprehensively and very carefully compiled, it becomes increasingly difficult to review them except in terms of superlatives. They really are the "bibles" of the various shipping sectors that they describe.
Obviously, the containership sector, like its tanker and bulker counterparts, is one of the three main legs of the global shipping industry. It is an enormous business in itself. There are more than 5,400 container ships with a total capacity of 22,600,000 TEUs of containers that constantly circle the globe. Containerships carry by far the greatest share of the world's cargoes by value. They are a vitally important and much under-appreciated component of the world economy.
The Containership Register is effectively an annual report of its sector. It contains both balance sheet and profit and loss accounts along with depreciation schedules and much more besides.
It represents an incredibly impressive work of research and is of enormous value to the industry generally.
