The US Navy has taken delivery of the future USS Kansas City, an Independence-class littoral combat ship (LCS) built by Austal USA.
The 127-metre vessel is designed to defeat asymmetric "anti-access" threats such as mines, quiet diesel submarines, and fast surface craft.
The future Kansas City is the 11th Independence-class LCS built by Austal. Five other sister vessels are under various stages of construction at the company's shipyard in Mobile, Alabama.
