The US Navy christened the future littoral combat ship (LCS) USS Canberra in a ceremony on Saturday, June 5.
The LCS is the second US Navy vessel to be named after Australia's capital city and the 15th Independence-class LCS to be built by Austal USA. Once completed, it will have a length of 418 feet (127.4 metres), a beam of 104 feet (31.6 metres), a draught of 14 feet (2.7 metres), and a speed of 43 knots.
The future Canberra is currently undergoing fitting out. Following commissioning, it will be homeported in San Diego, California, along with its other Independence-class sisters.
