Demolition works on the AU$22 million (US$17 million) Shute Harbour restoration project in the Whitsundays will begin this month following the damage caused by Cyclone Debbie.
Known as a gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef from the Queensland mainland, Shute Harbour was hit hard by the cyclone from March 23 to April 7, 2017.
Following the demolition, restoration works to the damaged terminal buildings, protective seawall, jetties and pontoons will begin in September.
They are expected to be completed by June 2019.
Funding for the Australian project is provided through the joint Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements.
