Giano in operation in Naples


After four years of research and development, the first tug of its class is now under test in Italy at the Gruppo Rimorchiatori Napoletani. Built by Chinese shipbuilder Guangdong Bonny Fair Heavy Industry, the 25.75-metre Giano is powered by twin 1,678kW diesels engines developing a total power of 3,356kW at 1,800rpm.

The tug, which takes its name from the ancient Roman god with two faces, has a beam of 13.02 metres and a depth of 5.30 metres.

Combination tug and dive support for Peruvian Navy


The Peruvian Navy has recently taken delivery of a well-equipped dive support vessel (DSV) from the shipyard Servicios Industriales de la Marina (SIMA). Designed in-house by the shipyard, the new 3,300kW vessel has significant towing capabilities and can act as a salvage tug.

Philippines’ Harbor Star Shipping to step up expansion to ASEAN neighbours

Harbor Star Shipping Services, a Philippine harbour assistance, lighterage, salvage, and towing service provider, recently announced their goal of expanding their tugboat operations to Indonesia and Myanmar. 

Harbor Star president and CEO Geronimo Bella, Jr., disclosed to the local press on Tuesday, March 6, the company’s plans of bringing their services to a much broader international market beginning with two of the Philippines’ ASEAN neighbours. 

ATBs for ITB

Vancouver-based Island Tug and Barge (ITB) is currently working on its most ambitious and innovative project to date. In its Annacis Island Shipyard, located undercover in a pair of huge leased warehouses on the Fraser River, they are building two tugs that will be paired with two of their existing barges. The two boats are built with pins for use in an articulated tug and barge application.

Rimorchiatori Riuniti takes on Damen newbuild

Rimorchiatori Riuniti has taken delivery of a Damen ASD 2913. The new vessel, named Germania, was handed over to the Italian tug operator last week from Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania. The delivery follows Rimorchiatori Riuniti’s order for a second, identical vessel, the contract for which was finalised at the end of December.
