Port of Rotterdam Authority opts for hybrid inspection vessel

The Port of Rotterdam Authority has ordered a new inspection vessel, the ‘RPA 8’, equipped with hybrid propulsion.

The new vessel is part of the port authority’s aims to provide a sustainable port.

The ‘RPA 8’ will replace the ‘RPA 3’ which has reached the end of its technical and economic lifetime. The expectation is that the ‘RPA 8’ will be taken into service in 2017.

Its construction will take place at the shipyard of the Kooiman Group in Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands.

In addition to the ‘RPA 8’, a tender will soon be called for the adaptation of the incident control vessels ‘RPA 10’, ‘11’, ’12’, ‘13’ and ‘16’.
