Works start in Palermo on ‘Nieuw Statendam’

Construction of the ‘Nieuw Statendam’, a new cruise ship for Holland America Line, has begun at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Palermo.

The bow section which is being constructed in Palermo, weighs around 3,900 tonnes and will be transported to the shipyard in Marghera where it will be assembled to set up the entire unit.

The new vessel will be a sister ship of “Koningsdam”, delivered in March 2016 from the shipbuilders facility in Marghera.

‘Nieuw Statendam’ will be about 99,500 gross tonnes, almost 300 metres long, with accommodation for up to 2,650 passengers on board.

The delivery of the new vessel is scheduled for end of 2018.
