Reintjes releases down angle gearbox series

Gearbox specialist Reintjes has unveiled its new down-angle gearbox series called WVSA.

By the end of 2015 a down angle prototype successfully completed its first test runs.

Its conical spur gears generate a shaft angle of eight degrees to ten degrees between the input and output shaft of the gearbox series. With a down angle gearbox installed, the engine room can be engineered in a space-saving design, and means the main engine can be installed horizontally while the propeller shaft can be sloped downwards by the inclination angle inside the gearbox. Thus, a shorter propeller shaft can be used which leads to a smaller engine room.

Special attention was also paid to the teeth design and contact pattern under load in order to reduce the noise emission.

The new series comprises WVSA 340, WVSA 740, and WVSA 1540 sizes, is available at a power range from 250 to 3,250kW and a reduction ratio of 1.5 to 4.
